Rehabilitation and extension of the Apaczai Csere-Janos College – Cluj-Napoca

The Apáczai Csere János College, a school with a long history and tradition in Cluj, intended to extend the building with the occasion of 500 years celebration of the Reformation.

Thereby, in 2017 April the Decorint Team started the rehabilitation works of the existing buildings consisting of two adjoint bodies, with a 2.631 sqm developed area. Later on, Decorint team started to build the new building, with B+GF+2F+Attic storeys, on 1.137 sqm area, linked to the former existing buildings, thus forming a complete ensemble.

The basement of the new building is hosting spaces for library, kitchen and technical spaces, at the Ground Floor a new festive hall was created, so the old one could be transformed into two new classrooms. On the other two floors new classrooms were created. While we built the new roofing, we also restored the roof on the existing buildings.

During the construction works we had some memorable discoveries. The location being in the historical city centre, all the excavations were conducted under archaeological surveillance. The archaeologists from the History Museum of Cluj made an important discovery, finding at a depth of 3.5 m a fireplace for burning ceramic objects, dating back to the Bronze Age.
